Introduction

Solid is a standard. a protocol. a specification. a movement. a server. a project. a set of rules. a layer. an OS. a community. a site. a platform. a system. a method. a social thing. a thing. that’s it but it is more than the sum of all the parts.

timbl was worried about the direction, that his invention took. so we needed an update. the data should belong to their owners (the user) and not be kept in silos and walled gardens.

so what do you get ? a Webid and a Pod.

the webid is a simple URL (well it could be server.net/i)

the pod is your place on the web. a data storage.

let’s switch to mother tongue. imagine:

… Deine Computing-Power in der Hosentasche arbeitet 24/7 für Dich.

… wir verstehen uns und helfen uns untereinander.

Bei Tageslicht betrachtet handelt es sich bei unserer Staatsform um eine Demokratie, die nun einmal verschiedene Betrachtungsweisen aushalten muss. In einer fünfjährigen Phase der Arbeitslosigkeit experimentierte ich mit verschiedenen Medien herum. Nun ist es so, dass sich der Autor gern provokant äußert und genügend Nahrung und Kleidung zur Verfügung hat. Die Medikation ist seit 10 Jahren stabil.

Solid is a set of standards (e.g. a protocol) that extends the existing web towards new possibilities above and beyond anything we have seen so far. There is a public website, whose existance goes back to a grassroots project started at MIT back to 2016. The mother corporation has chosen the slogan “Prove possible” and we will flip the web right side up to break the motor of inequality and hate speech and fake news. As autodidact I have put hands on several parts of the code and still struggle with a deeper understanding of the linked data principles. Our servers are stable and functional. This is not advertising but a post about the life and trials and tribulations and depressed episodes of a help worker with an 50 Mbit line and a linux operating system whose most important tools are the terminal and a text editor. Get yourself a webid and spin it up for a try. No URLs in this text.

Als 54 Jahre auf diesem Planeten wandelndes Individuum habe ich mir einen gesunden Anfängergeist bewahrt. Gelebt wird in einer 16-Personen-WG und gearbeitet körperlich und unter Benutzung einer Windows-10-Maschine.
