Maurie verrichtete sein Tagwerk, während unsere Bande dem Müßiggang nachhing. Die Maulwurfine und der Delphin unterhielten sich angeregt über die neueste Zinssatzsenkung, der Grizzly stand auf Standby, Blacky strich um die Häuser und der Forscher forschte. Was forschte er ? Er versuchte Zusammenhänge herzustellen. Peng, wieder eine Zeitung eingepackt. Kaffee war jedenfalls genug da. Bernie redete dem Octopus ins Gewissen. Aber niemand glaubte noch ernsthaft daran, dass er seinen Zackenplanktonkonsum irgendwann reduzieren würde.

Die Delphinfamilie hatte es tatsächlich geschafft, eine Kommunikationsmethode ohne Technik zu finden. Als die Dark Shadow sich ihrem Ziel näherte, es lag in Kalifornien, juckte Maurie’ s linke Augenbraue. Nein, niemand bemerkte, als die Windmühle in der Wüste niederging. Unsere Mannschaft begann die Erkundung. Zunächst also San Diego. Als es Nacht wurde, hatten sie eine Bar gefunden. Willie der Barmann schenkte einen nach dem anderen aus. Es gab auch Milch. Bernie jedoch war bei seinem geliebten Gerstensaft geblieben. Maurie hatte Feierabend. Ordnungsgemäß fuhr er den Rechner herunter und schaltete auch den Dreierstecker in der Küche aus. Von der Bar aus ging es zurück in die Windmühle. Die Com-Verbindung nach Hause stand. ‘Wann kommt Ihr zurück ?’ Krrrrk-krrrrk. Maurie wusste jedoch, dass alles in Ordnung war.
