Unter den Mitgefangenen begann sich langsam aber sicher gute Laune zu verbreiten. Alle hatten etwas auf dem Kerbholz. Die Humorpolizei ist eine überaus wichtige Einrichtung einer Demokratie. Maurie und sein Team hatten lange nicht kommuniziert. Nicht jeder hatte eine Herde tierischer Kumpels. John und Jane saßen in der Windmühle in Enger fest. ‘Kollege, was hast Du verbrochen ?’ fragte Maurie einen seiner Zellengenossen. ‘Ich habe während einer Jura-Vorlesung gelacht.’ antwortete der. Maurie gab Anekdoten seiner erlebten Reisen zum Besten. Sie spielten Skat. Sie rauchten. Sie tranken Tee. Sie beamten einen von ihnen raus, nach Hause. Ein Wärter kam und öffnete die Zellentüren. ‘Leute, Ihr seid zum Abendessen beim Chef eingeladen.’ Manche wollten sich nicht korrumpieren lassen. Die meisten allerdings gingen hin. ‘Warum werden wir hier festgehalten ?’ fragte Maurie. Der Grizzly konnte ihm in dieser Angelegenheit nicht remote helfen. ‘Political Correctness’. ‘Eine Bande Verbrecher.’ ‘Ganz arme Schweine.’ ‘Geldgierige Demagogen’. ‘Auch ein paar Idealisten.’
